It may be that you have upgraded your Windows XP desktop operating system from Service Pack 2 (SP2) to Service Pack 3 (SP3). In order to learn whether Windows XP SP3 is already installed, click start. Then right click My Computer, and then click Properties. It will show whether you are using SP2 or SP3. In the Systems Properties, under General Menu, there are 3 subheadings: System, Registered to, and Computer. Under the first System subheading, if it is SP2, it will be mentioned Service Pack 3.

There is no Special Pack 3 (SP3) for the 64-bit version of Windows XP. If you are running Windows XP with 64-bit version with Service Pack 2 (SP2), you are with the latest and will continue to be eligible for computer support and receive updates till April 8, 2014.

While updating from SP2 to SP3, you may face computer hurdles. For instance a PC user after upgrading his Windows XP from SP2 to SP3 was left with all his USB ports becoming unusable. USB devices such as flash memory and scanner are important hardware component for your PC. You will learn how to keep your Windows XP up to date with Service Pack 3 from technical support experts in a good computer forum.

Drivers for his four USB hubs on the motherboard were asked and installed with the wizard (from C:\windows\inf). A driver was also requested by mysterious CMO0150 display. With no drivers for this phantom device, it appeared in the Device manager with yellow-question-marked under “Other devices”. According to that PC visitor in a popular computer forum, all USB devices (flash memory, scanner) in “Device manager” appeared yellow-question-marked under “Other devices.”

The PC visitor had uninstalled, downloaded latest drivers, reinstalled, and replaced usbehci.sys, usbport.sys, usbstor.ini & usbstor.inf, etc. all to no avail.

Once you visit a good computer forum you get technical support for solving such computer problems by interacting with your PC friends. For instance as part of your technical support, you may be asked by your PC friends to check for viruses, malware, spyware. You may also be asked to try doing few more things which would solve your computer problem. Your PC friends drawing upon wealth of their experiences in technical support may advise you to carry following steps:

1. Removing all the USB devices and uninstalling the USB controller from device manager on your PC. Then rebooting but not allowing Windows reinstalling the drivers. Visit Windows update, scan, and then install the latest USB drivers.

2. Visit your PC manufacturer’s website and check if they have a newer version of USB drivers for SP3. If it is, then uninstall your current USB devices. When rebooting, let Windows install the newer version of USB driver.

3. Logon to your PC manufacturer’s website and check if they have updated BIOS. But you are also warned to be very careful as you do not want mistakes in flashing a BIOS update. Follow the recommended instructions in the website.

In this way for your technical support, you get useful tech help tips that solve your computer problems.
