Apple is a company that spends a lot of time designing their products to run at their best capability. These items cannot run at their best potential though if they are dysfunctional because of damage to the actual item. If an item is not charged correctly it will not work, if the item has a cracked screen you will not be able to use it correctly, if the item has water damage it will definitely not work correctly, and if your item is cracked or broken anywhere it may have permanent damage that has to be replaced.
